This medal was awarded to
all who were "In the
service of the King" in 1906 to commemorate the 40th year of King Carol
I. This includes Military, Police, and Government employees. It was
awarded
in two types; "Civilian" and "Military".
The medal is a bronze oval
with a width of 34
mm. The obverse displays a bust of Carol I over which the words: Carol
I REGE AL ROMANIEI. (translated: Carol I King of Romania)
Under the bust is written the
sculptor's name
"P.TELGE".
The reverse of the two types of the medal are
different. The civillian
type displayed the royal coat of arms above the dates 1866-1906, while
the military type displayed the coat of arms, and the inscription: "In
amintirea anului al 40-lea al Capitanei mele 1866-1906" (Translation:
In
memorial to the 40 years of my leadership 1866-1906")
This is the civilian version
of this medal. The
medal has the original ribbon, however it is worn. The pendent has been
cleaned, and there is a dent on the left edge of the medal which can be
clearly seen in the scan.
