War of Unification,
Veterans Association Medal
1907
This medal is a commemorative medal
dated 1907 given to veterans of the Romanian War of Unification.
It appears to be
made of polished brass. When I first acquired this medal it was very dirty and
required a deep cleaning to read the inscriptions. The ribbon and
brooch are replacements. I do not know what ribbon was originally
used to suspend this medal.
The obverse reads:
MOUNUMENTUL INDEPENDENTEI RIDICAT IN
AMINTIREA EROILOR RESBOIULUI 1877-78
1907
CARNIOL FIUL
Translation:
The monument of independence raised in
memory of the heroes of the 1877-78 war
1907
CARNIOL FIUL (a
person's name)
Reverse reads:
SOCIETATEA VETERANILOR GR. INFERIOARE
,,COROANA DE OTEL" A ROMANIEI
CENTRALA PITESTI
Translation:
The society of veterans of (not
translated: GR. inferioare) "crown of steel" or "the steel crown" of
Romania
Central Pitesti
(a city in Romania)
