The
Navy & Marine Corps Achievement Medal
1961-Present
This medal was
instituted in 1961 to award
'Meritorious service or achievement in a combat or non combat situation
based on sustained performance of a superlative nature.'
When awarded in
combat situations,
a 'V' clasp is authorized on the ribbon drape. Additional awards
of the Navy & Marine Corps Achievement Medal are displayed by gold
stars affixed to the ribbon. A silver star replaces 5 gold
stars.
This particular
example is in mint
condition and is marked with a diamond and GI on the crimped brooch.
